riday Apil 7th, touchdown Beirut International Airport.
Our 48h trip started in a delightful way as partially cloudy Beirut could not hold her aerial breeze from welcoming us the time we stepped in the outdoors. Exos and I, we had the pleasure to visit the city for a special night at the Gate 9, Beirut. We immediately felt the warmth of the Lebanese lands, as if something was already heating up for an exceptional underground event in the following hours.
The highly enthusiastic and incredibly generous Gate 9 team, who has only conveyed good vibes all throughout our stay, made sure that we do actually get a glimpse of Lebanon. That’s when the oldest city in the world, Byblos, has hosted us for dinner, as we were looking forward to discover such historical gem, despite the dim atmosphere of the night.
Purely blissful city, as Exos and I have shared the same opinion regarding not only the traditional Lebanese dishes that we had the chance to taste, but also the few sceneries that we’ve got a glimpse of, amidst the darkness of the night. Back to Beirut, to Gate 9 specifically, where we have also got a private room as accommodation; extremely comfortable and convenient place. But the most intriguing part of Gate 9 was the basement…That’s where it all happened (before the cosy private pre-party galore). The basement (with a capacity of 200 persons) of the building was also called Gate 9, but this time, it means the “real deal”, underground venue wise. As soon as we entered the venue, we had a sort of a small “Berghain” deja-vu, a quite rusty industrial feel, yet embellished by a very gloomy underground atmosphere.
Exos have delighted the audience with a full-length three-hour set, along with very special local DJs such as Rami &Ramzi, and Jean J. Unfortunately, photos and recordings were not allowed in the venue during the night, but some of these following photos will give you some hindsight, and maybe the will to know more about Beirut’s electronic music scene, because it is quite interesting.
